NKR parliamentary factions spread statement on Levon Hayrapetyan’s arrest

STEPANAKERT, JULY 22, ARMENPRESS. The NKR National Assembly's "Dashnaktsutyun", "Democracy", "Homeland" factions and the "Artsakhatun" parliamentary group spread a statement on the arrest of businessman and benefactor Levon Hayrapetyan in Moscow.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the NKR National Assembly, the statement reads:

“On July 15 of the current year Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan was arrested in Moscow. Under the petition of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the court applied two months’ arrest as a measure of restraint against him and he was accused of illegal economic activities.

We are guided by the presumption of innocence and refrain from making political assessments. Being a patriot, Levon Hayrapetyan carried out many charitable projects in his homeland – Artsakh for many years, contributing to our country's socio-economic development.

We consider that the preliminary investigation body should change without delay the measure of restraint, releasing him from arrest, taking into consideration Levon Hayrapetyan’s health condition. In our opinion, being a law-abiding citizen and an educated person, Levon Hayrapetyan, once released, will provide a comprehensive assistance to the preliminary investigation and will be useful in clarifying the issues that are of interest to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

We consider the incident as regrettable misunderstanding and believe that the Russian law enforcement bodies will be able to carry out an objective and thorough investigation, in the result of which Levon Hayrapetyan’s innocence will be proved”.
