Georgian- Armenian Diocese doubts that attack on Church of St. Etchmiadzin was household incident

Georgian- Armenian Diocese doubts that attack on Church of St. Etchmiadzin was household
incident

YEREVAN, JULY 21, ARMENPRESS. The Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia accepted with hesitation the statement made by the Ministry of Interior of Georgia, that the attack on the Armenian Church of St. Etchmiadzin located in Tbilisi, had been of household nature and had not contained hatred towards ethnic or national minorities. In a conversation with "Armenpress", Susanna Khachatryan, Head of the Press Service of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia, informed that the group, consisting of 50 people, offended the dignity of the Armenians in the church and it's hard to qualify and accept it as a household incident.

"We would certainly like very much that the incident had not been on the national ground, but they were using obscene language addressed to the Armenians and the Armenian Church. If the law enforcement authorities believe that the incident was really on household ground, then let them punish and take measures that such incidents never happen again. They have attacked the church and that is very serious. Nevertheless, we are waiting to see how the preliminary investigation will be completed," said Khachatryan, adding that the church continues its normal work, and the following day after the incident Sunday liturgy was served in the church.
