Ashtarak ascribed to Martiros Saryan and put up for auction on Ebay is probably a fake: Ruzan
Saryan

YEREVAN, JULY 19, ARMENPRESS. “Ashtark” painting by prominent Armenian artist Martiros Saryan was put up for auction on Ebay. The artist completed the painting in 1948. The preliminary price of the painting is USD 1,2 thousand dollars.

As reports “Armenpress”, July 21 of the current year is the deadline of the auction. There is no information about the owner of the painting on the website, but it’s stated that he lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. According to the website, this is the original canvas with the artist’s signature on it.

The Director of the Martiros Saryan House Museum Ruzan Saryan stated that she can neither confirm, nor deny whether the canvas belongs to Martiros Saryan or not. In addition, Ruzan Saryan noted that she had no information about the fate of that piece of art ever before.

Among other things, the Director of the Martiros Saryan House Museum Ruzan Saryan underscored: “By all means, USD 1.2 thousand is a very low price for Saryan’s work. It should cost not less than USD 12 thousand and more. That’s why I guess it’s a fake.”
