YEREVAN, MAY 28, ARMENPRESS. President Serzh Sargsyan’s initiative to invite the President of Turkey to Yerevan on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was a very strong step, due to which the Armenian party not only strengthens its position, but also shows the world its constructive stance. According to the Director of the Institute of the Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan, the President's statement was a strong step. In a conversation with “Armenpress”, the turkologist expressed his opinion that in both cases, whether the Turkish President agrees or not, Armenia will appear in an advantageous position. ”However, taking into account Turkey’s position and its unchanged attitude towards Armenia and the Armenian issue, I think that the Turkey’s President will not accept the invitation to visit Armenia. And Armenia once again can show the world to what degree Turkey is left behind in its ideas and will not be able to set foot with the modern world. Turkey will once again prove that it is unable to assess the realities correctly" – said Ruben Safrastyan.

Back in 1991, when a group of Turkish journalists, on April 24, for the first time visited the Tsitsernakabert memorial, it was written that a nation that every year commemorates its victims, cannot be ignored.
