American people recognizes Armenian Genocide: U.S. Congressmen

YEREVAN, APRIL 24, ARMENPRESS. The American people has recognized the Armenian Genocide and we are hopeful that the Turkish government will also recognize it. As reports “Armenpress” the U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel (D-New York) stated this on April 24 in the Tzitzernakaberd Memorial. Among other things, the Congressman underscored: “We are here to express our solidarity to the Armenian people and announce that the United States supports and stands by the Armenian people.”

In a conversation with “Armenpress”, Congressman David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island) emphasized: “We’ll continue cooperating with our colleagues for the adoption of the resolution. It’s of a certain importance for the United States to serve as an example in this issue; hence it’s our duty to do everything possible to pass the resolution.”

The fact of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman government has been documented, recognized, and affirmed in the form of media and eyewitness reports, laws, resolutions, and statements by many states and international organizations. The complete catalogue of all documents categorizing the 1915 wholesale massacre of the Armenian population in Ottoman Empire as a premeditated and thoroughly executed act of genocide, is extensive. Uruguay was the first country to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide in 1965. The massacres of the Armenian people were officially condemned and recognized as genocide in accordance with the international law by France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Greece, Slovakia, Cyprus, Lebanon, Uruguay, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Canada, Vatican and Australia.
