FMs of Armenia and Belarus sign Program of consultations for 2014 – 2015

YEREVAN, APRIL 22, ARMENPRESS. On April 21 by the invitation of Belarus Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid an official visit to Minsk. On the same day the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received Edward Nalbandian.

The Press, Information, and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that welcoming Minister Nalbandian President Lukashenko expressed satisfaction with the dynamics of the development of bilateral relations as well as stressed the importance of such meetings for discussion of current issues of bilateral agenda, the exchange of thoughts.

Highlighting the warm, friendly and cooperative nature of the relations with Armenia the President of Belarus noted with satisfaction that although there is no huge trade turnover between two states, however, the rate of growth is satisfying, a lot of work has been undertaken towards the strengthening and expansion of economic ties.

Alexander Lukashenko also stressed that it was essential not to stop on the achieved results and develop the achievements. “We do not have immense bilateral trade. However, taking into consideration that we have had zero turnover in the past, today we can speak of huge progress,” the Belarusian President said.

Expressing gratitude for the reception Foreign Minister Nalbandian delivered the warm greetings of the President of Armenia to the President of Belarus and mentioned that the visit of President Lukashenko last May and the arrangements reached between the Presidents served as a good basis for the development of truly active and dynamic relations between the two states.

Minister Nalbandian also touched upon the works of inter-governmental, inter-parliamentary, military-technical cooperation committees, highlighted the importance of such frameworks of cooperation.
The Minister welcomed the growth of trade volumes between states by almost 23%, assuring that together with the Belarusian partners intense activities would continue aimed at the development of cooperation in other spheres.

Referring to the participation of Armenia in the process of Eurasian integration, Minister Nalbandian noted, that almost all the points anticipated by the roadmap on the membership of Armenia to the Customs Union and Common Economic Space have been implemented.

President Lukashenko asked to deliver his warm greetings to the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

The following meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian was with his Belarus counterpart Vladimir Makei.

During the meeting the Ministers discussed the process of implementation of agreements reached between the Presidents of both states, touched upon the wide range of issues on the development of cooperation in the political, economic, military-technical, cultural, scientific and other spheres between Armenia and Belarus.

The sides discussed issues of holding consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the strengthening of partnership within international organizations, such as the UN, OSCE, CSTO, CIS and cooperation within other frameworks. They also referred to the process of Armenia’s membership to the Customs Union, Common Economic Space, Eurasian Union.

Edward Nalbandian and Vladimir Makei spoke about inter-parliamentary cooperation, issues of the development of interaction between the regions of Armenia and Belarus, mentioning with satisfaction that almost all Armenian marzes interact with Belarus regions.

Minister Nalbandian stressed the importance of expansion of the legal framework.
Foreign Minister of Armenia presented the latest developments in the process of the settlement of Karabakh conflict, joint efforts taken by Armenia and OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards exclusively peaceful settlement of the issue.

There was an exchange of views during the meeting over the Ukrainian crisis and efforts made to resolve it.

After the meeting Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Belarus signed the Program of consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of two states for 2014 – 2015.
The signing ceremony was followed by the press briefing of the Ministers.

Edward Nalbandian also visited Minsk Victory Square and laid wreath to the Victory Monument paying tribute to those killed in the Great Patriotic War.
