Aronian lost to Andreikin: Candidates Tournament

YEREVAN, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenian GM Levon Aronian faced with Dmitry Andreikin in the thirteenth round of the Candidates Tournament. Levon Aronian played with blacks and lost to the opponent on the 44th move. Thus, Levon Aronian lost all chances to occupy the first position in the Candidates Tournament. In the final round Aronian’s opponent will be Sergey Karjakin.

Levon Aronian faced with Vladimir Kramnik in the twelfth round of the Candidates Tournament. The match between this two prominent GMs ended in a draw.

Aronian played draw with Peter Svidler in the eleventh round of the Candidates Tournament. Levon Aronian also played draw with Veselin Topalov in the tenth round of the Candidates Tournament.

In the previous round Levon Aronian lost to Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

In the eighth round of the Candidates Tournament the strongest chess player of Armenia Levon Aronian played draw with the former world champion Viswanathan Anand. The opponents ended the match peacefully after the 19th move.

Levon Aronian defeated Sergey Karjakin in round 7 of FIDE World Candidates Tournament.

Levon Aronian also played the Berlin Ruy Lopez against Sergey Karjakin. After white was forced to capture on c6, the game started resembling the Delayed Exchange Variation.

White had difficulties in getting his pawn majority going, while black slowly probed opponent’s structure on the other flank. Despite the apparent simplicity on the board, Karjakin was spending lots of time and his position slowly deteriorated.

Few moves before the time control white conceded two pieces for a rook and some pressure on the back rank. He did win the bishop back, but then black captured a handful of pawns while constantly threatening the white king.

Karjakin tried to seek the escape by exchanging the queens but black pawns were too fast and the game was concluded in Aronian’s favor on move 53.

Peter Svidler and Viswanathan Anand played draw, Vladimir Kramnik won the match against Azerbaijan’s Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Dmitry Andreikin celebrated a surprising victory over Veselin Topalov.  

The second strongest chess player of the world Levon Aronian played draw with Dmitry Andreikin in the sixth round of the Candidates Tournament.

The central match of the 5th round of the Candidates Tournament was played on the fourth table, where Levon Aronian played with blacks against Vladimir Kramnik. The opponents shared a point after the intensive play, which was characterized by Vladimir Kramnik as a “real chess game”.

The second strongest player of the world Levon Aronian faced with Peter Svidler in the fourth round of the Candidates Tournament, where the Armenian GM celebrated a significant victory.

Levon Aronian played draw in the third round of the Candidates Tournament. Aronian faced with Veselin Topalov. The opponents shared a point on the 35th move.

The strongest chess player of Armenia Levon Aronian defeated the Azerbaijan's Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in the 2nd round of the Candidates' Tournament. Levon Aronian played with whites.

In the first round of the Chess Candidates’ Tournament the strongest chess player of the Republic of Armenia Levon Aronian lost to the former world champion Viswanathan Anand. Aronian played with blacks. Other couples were Dmitry Andreikin – Vladimir Kramnik, Sergey Karjakin – Peter Svidler, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov – Veselin Topalov. They all shared point with each other.

The FIDE Candidates Tournament takes place in Khanty-Mansiysk March 13th to 31st 2014 (playing days). Former World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand has signed up to try and get his title back. Qualifiers: Vladimir Kramnik, Dmitry Andreikin, Veselin Topalov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Levon Aronian and Sergey Karjakin with Peter Svidler as the host nominee.

Levon Aronian is an Armenian chess Grandmaster. On the May 2012 FIDE list, he was ranked number two in the world and had an Elo rating of 2825, making him the third highest rated player in history.
