India wants to sign free trade agreement with CU: Putin

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS. India has shown interest in signing a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Customs Union. Armenpress reports citing Itar-tass that the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin underscored it at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Minsk.

"We just mentioned that we have to approach the expansion of our union very carefully. I fully agree with that. And the conditions should be the same for all. We discussed this issue and we all agreed with this position,” said the President of the Russian Federation.

Speaking about the interest of third countries in the cooperation with the Customs Union, in particular Turkey, Vladimir Putin noted that another major world economy, India, has shown interest. “We just hosted the Prime Minister of India, and he asked me to put this issue on the agenda of our today’s meeting, namely that India would like to consider the possibility of signing a free trade agreement with the Customs Union,” he said. According to the President of the Russian Federation, in view of the volume and scale of the Indian market, the development prospects of Asia as a whole, the sides must consider this proposal seriously.
