Paravakar-Vazashen road closed after shooting from Azerbaijani side16:54, 23 October, 2013
YEREVAN, OCTOBER 23, ARMENPRESS. The Paravakar-Vazashen road in the Tavush Province has been closed. In a conversation with “Armenpress” the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Artzrun Hovhannisyan stated that the road has been closed because it can still be dangerous for the civil and military vehicles. In addition Artzrun Hovhannisyan underscored: “The situation is calm in the Paravakar Community of the Tavush Province.”
Among other things the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Artzrun Hovhannisyan touched upon the issue of health conditions of the soldiers wounded because of the fire the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened in the direction of the column of military vehicles taking the soldiers to the military duty. Hovhannisyan noted that one of those soldiers have already been signed out of the hospital. The conditions of the other two conscripts are estimated as satisfactory. “The two servicemen receive medical assistance in “Muratsan” Hospital. Their lives are not endangered,” the Press Secretary highlighted.
The Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire at the vehicles by 13-14 o’clock on October 22. The incident happened in the Paravakar part of the Berd-Ijevan road in the Tavush Province of the Republic of Armenia. The passengers of both civil and military vehicles are among the casualties of the burst of machine-gun fire. Conscript Garik A. Poghosyan (born in 1994) died because of the fire the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened in the direction of the column of military vehicles taking the soldiers to the military duty. Conscripts Arthur S. Andranikyan (born in 1994), Arayik N. Zhamharyan (born in 1994), and Martin V. Petrosyan (born in 1994) received various injures.
The Office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk was reported about the incident.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia announced that the present criminal action of the rival will not remain without response and the initiator of the provocation will bear the responsibility for it.
