U.S. Department of State concerned about defect in Radio Liberty broadcasting in Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, JUNE 28, ARMENPRESS. The United States are concerned about the state of freedom in Azerbaijan. As reports "Armenpress" citing the official website of the U.S. Department of State, the Department of State had been in touch with Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty and the Azerbaijan Government to discuss the issues regarding broadcasting satellite programming. Patrick Ventrell, the Press Office Director of the U.S. Department of State, noted this at the course of Daily Press Briefing held on June 27, 2013.

About a week ago Radio Liberty stated that their news programming to Azerbaijan had been interrupted in such a way that it appears that it's being disrupted and jammed by the government.

Among other things Patrick Ventrell underlined: "We have seen reports that RFE, RL, and other outlets have encountered difficulties broadcasting satellite programming into Azerbaijan. We've been in touch with Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty and the Azerbaijan Government to discuss this issue. We think that Radio Free Europe is an important contributor to the Azerbaijani media landscape. Its reporting provides a much-needed model of objective and independent journalism in Azerbaijan, and the United States strongly supports media freedom and freedom of expression in Azerbaijan."
