Apricot harvest of 2013 won’t yield to 2012 volumes: Minister of Agriculture

YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS: A rich harvest of apricots is expected this year. This was reported to Armenpress by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia Sergo Karapetyan. “I cannot make any precise predictions at this moment, but taking into account the volumes of the apricots harvested in the Republic, I can certainly say that the harvest of 2013 would not yield to the one of 2012”, - stated the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia.

As noted by Sergo Karapetyan, the heavy hail, fell in different regions of the Republic, has not affected much the volumes of the harvest of the apricots of 2013.

In 2012 the volumes of the apricot harvest in the Republic of Armenia made about 40 thousand tons. A very good harvest of apricots was registered in 2009 in Armenia, making about 90 thousand tons. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia, in 2010 the harvest was reduced by 30-40% due to spring frostbites and hails.

In mid June the harvesting of apricot was launched in the Republic of Armenia. The Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan instructed to make the price for the purchase of apricots 500 AMD.

In one week period the Spayka Company has exported from the Republic of Armenia three thousand tons of apricots, which exceeds the indicator of the year of 2012.
