Intellectual Hakob Mikaelyan kidnapped on Allepo-Beirut road

YEREVAN, MAY 23, ARMENPRESS. Armenian intellectual, prosaist, director of charity college of Aleppo Hakob Mikayelyan was kidnapped on his way from Aleppo to Beirut on May 21. The Press Service of the Perio Diocese informed "Armenpress" about this.

Among other things it was stated that Hakob Mikayelyan was kidnapped by the Islamic extremist group called Jabhat al-Nusra and it has not been clarified what measures have been taken to release him.

In accordance with the UN data clashes in Syria, which started on March 2011, caused the death of over 70 thousand people, including more than four dozens Armenians.

Armenian-populated Aleppo appeared in a unique trap. It has become very dangerous to travel on vehicles to leave the city and the airport has also been closed. The Governmental forces make attempts to take under control the surroundings of the airport, but the rebels have already conquered certain regions.
