Baku plans to activate Karabakh conflict settlement negotiations after elections

YEREVAN, MAY 21, ARMENPRESS: Azerbaijan hopes to activate the negotiation on the Karabakh conflict settlement after the presidential elections. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov, summing up the results of the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held on May 21 in Moscow, as reported by Armenpress, quoting the RIA Novosti.

“Today we discussed the issue of the Karabakh conflict settlement. We expect that the current standstill situation of the negotiations process will be overcome by the role of the Russian Federation in the region and its role as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group”, - said Elmar Mamedyarov.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov, right after the presidential elections process is completed in Azerbaijan, it is necessary “to double our efforts to achieve a progress in this… resoluble conflict settlement process”.

In 2013 the next presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan.
