Yerevan, August 10, ARMENPRESS: Nagorno Karabakh presidential elections are worth to serious attention within the framework of international community: it was one of the most competitive one in post-Soviet territory. As “Armenpress” reports, the expert of the American “National Interest” periodical Tomas de Waal expressed such an opinion.
To his word NK presidential elections once again proved that the most competitive elections are held in the unknown republics. The reason of the phenomenon is considered to be the fact that the state institutions of the unknown republics are weak, and societies are more confident on their forces.
De Waal especially appreciates the results of the opponent representative’s participation in the Artsakh presidential elections taking into consideration that Vitali Balasanyan could win 32% of the votes without the support of any political organization.
Author of the article highlights that in most of the post-Soviet countries the opposition candidates could overcome that index with difficulty. He brought the example of Levon Ter-Petrosyan who won 21% of the votes in the 2008 Armenian presidential elections.
